thyssenkrupp Contracts SMS group for Annealing Line Build
08/24/2021 - SMS group has landed an order for a 200,000-metric-ton, electrical-strip annealing and insulating line from thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, the equipment manufacturer announced on Monday.
SMS group said the line, which will be installed at the steelmaker’s Bochum mill in Germany, will produce non-oriented strip for electric motors and generators. It will produce widths from 700 mm to 1,350 mm and thicknesses between 0.2 mm and 1.0 mm.
The line will consist of a cleaning section, annealing furnace, coating section and drying furnace. SMS group is to supply the complete line, including the mechanical equipment, process technology, furnace technology as well as electrical and automation systems. It also will take responsibility for installation and will provide technical assistance in the commissioning phase.
“The technological heart of the line is the heat treatment and coating process. For heat treatment, a resource-saving Drever furnace will be installed. It will be able to map to an optimized annealing curve, and for this purpose, the furnace will be equipped with a patented rapid heating system for up to 900°C by a combination of radiant tube furnace and inductors,” SMS group said.
“Further heating will be accomplished by electrical heating elements, while several different cooling systems will be installed for subsequent targeted cooling,” it added.
