Thermo Electron Corp. will supply Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. with two Radiometrie RM 215 X-ray thickness gauge upgrades for the 66-Inch Tandem Mill at their Allenport, Pa., facility.
The gauges will provide high-speed sheet thickness measurements at the entry and exit of the mill. The gauges will be installed as part of a major outage planned for November 2004.
Thermo’s Radiometrie series of X-ray flat strip thickness gauges improve production quality by real-time feedback of absolute or deviation-from-target thickness measurements. The measurements can be used for manual AGC, or adaptive control of the mill. The gauges also facilitate faster mill set-up time, optimizing mill processes and increasing energy savings.
