There's Something Very Familiar About 2017's New Cars, Trucks and Vans
01/05/2018 - Although automakers have many a choice to make when it comes to materials, they apparently found themselves often turning to steel.
The Steel Market Development Institute tallied more than 60 steel-intensive 2017 models that made a debut at North American auto shows during the year. The models represented every major vehicle segment and size.
"With so many new steel-intensive vehicle debuts across key vehicle segments, it truly reinforces how advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) is driving innovation across the industry and helping automakers reach their lightweighting targets," said Steel Market Development Institute automotive vice president Jody Hall.
"There are more than 200 grades of innovative AHSS available to automakers today. This allows engineers to apply the right grade in the right location for exceptional occupant protection, durability and crash energy management."
The institute has a run-down of some the new steel-intensive vehicles here.
