The Systems Group Begins Shipping Nucor Furnace Components
09/23/2020 - The Systems Group’s Systems Spray-Cooled division has delivered the first pieces of a new electric arc furnace (EAF) being built at Nucor Corp.’s Gallatin mill in Kentucky, the company reports.
In a statement, The Systems Group said the equipment includes the EAF shells, roofs and fume elbows.
“The EAF sidewall will incorporate a unique proprietary profile that includes integrated ‘bump-outs’ to help protect the burners and refractory bricks and reduce scrap jams at the slag door opening area. The roof will be a new steep cone design for optimization and extended lifetime,” the company said.
The project is part of a US$650 million expansion that will increase the production capability from 1.6 million to 3 million tons annually and will increase the maximum coil width to approximately 73 inches.
