The Systems Group Announces Order From Nucor Sheet Mill

According to the The Systems Group, the order includes furnace sidewalls, roofs and elbows for the plant’s two EAFs.

“The EAF roof will be a 3-point gantry design. The elbow incorporates a new integrated drain design that eliminates bolted connections for quicker changeouts. The EAF sidewall incorporates a unique proprietary ‘sloped’ hot-face profile that includes integrated ‘bump-outs’ to help protect the burners and refractory bricks, and reduce scrap jams at the slag door opening area,” the company said.

In addition to the furnace components, The Systems Group’s Systems Contracting unit will supply piping throughout the entire meltshop.

The 3-million-ton mill is being equipped to produce 84-inch sheet and will include a 76-inch tandem cold mill and two galvanizing lines capable of producing advanced high-end automotive and construction grades.

Construction is expected to take two to three years to complete.

“Nucor Steel’s decision to install Spray-Cooled equipment was based on the need for the safest, most environmentally friendly, lowest-cost option along with the extended life and performance for water-cooled equipment,” The Systems Group said.
