Thai Rod Mill Awards Contract For Furnace Modifications
08/17/2015 - Primetals Technologies has won an order for electric arc furnace upgrades at a rod and wire mill in Thailand, the company has announced.
Primetals said N.T.S. Steel Group Public Co. Ltd. is ordering a new electrode control system, a slag-foaming manager and a refined combined burner system for its Chonburi mill. The project also includes modifications to the electrode lifting columns.
Through the project, the company expects to see a 4-percent decrease in electricity usage per metric ton and a 17-percent decrease in electrode consumption per metric ton.
"At the same time, reduced tapping times will increase the productivity of the electric arc furnace by 5 percent," Primetals said in a statement.
N.T.S. is a subsidiary of Tata Steel. The project is set for completion by the end of the year.
