Texas Slitting Line Enters Service
01/05/2022 - Toll processor Ferrous 85” Co. has put a massive new slitter into commercial operation at Steel Dynamics Inc.’s (SDI) Sinton, Texas, USA, flat-rolled mill, the company reports.
In a statement, Ferrous 85, a division of Ferragon Corp., said the slitter can process coils in widths ranging from 36 inches to 87 inches and in weights of up to 105,000 lbs. Slit width capacity of the line ranges from 7 inches to 85 inches in gauges from 0.074 inch to 0.750 inch.
“The proprietary arbor and tooling technology of the Ferrous 85 slitter provides a very consistent, high-quality slit edge which is ideal for edge and width–sensitive applications such as electric resistance welded (ERW) pipe production,” the company said in a statement.
The slitter, which is designed to process hot-rolled and hot-rolled pickled and oiled sheet, is said to be the largest in North America. Ferrous 85 is one of at least a half-dozen downstream companies that have set up shop on the SDI mill campus.
“We are extremely excited to have our slitting line up and running,” said Ferrous 85 president Ed Gonzalez. “We’re looking forward to providing SDI and their customers with world-class slitting for years to come.”
