Tetra Tech CR Industrial Services Division, Bridgeville, Pa., has relocated the Lorain Pellet Terminal from the mouth of the Black River in Lorain, Ohio, to the Cleveland Bulk Terminal located on Whiskey Island, Cleveland, Ohio.
The objective of this design-build project for the Port of Cleveland was to dismantle the existing facility, then use as much of the existing equipment as possible to reassemble a modified version of the original terminal layout. As general contractor, Tetra Tech was responsible for all activities required for the relocation, including complete system design, permitting, dismantlement, transportation, construction, start-up and commissioning. The Lorain site was cleared of equipment and graded for use by the city.
Tetra Tech relocated 5,000 ton/hour conveyor systems, transfer stations, a shuttle-type ship loader, hydraulics, weigh scale and dust suppression systems. New construction included piling, foundations, structural steel, retaining walls, conveyor tunnel, installation of utilities and electrical power and control systems.
The project was completed in late spring of this year.
