An event to celebrate the investment was chaired by Colima’s governor Mario Anguiano Moreno and Ternium directors Maximo Vedoya, executive president of Ternium Mexico and Diego Ferrari, mining director of Ternium Mexico. During the event, the governor emphasized, "Ternium is one of those companies that sets the standard in economic growth, providing production processes that encourage competitiveness, efficiency and sustainability. Congratulations to Ternium Mexico for taking the lead in incorporating cutting edge technologies with this modernization effort."
Maximo Vedoya commented, "We are very proud that Ternium is part of the production chain in this region. We create value in Mexico that stays in Mexico, through various consumer goods such as cars, appliances, furniture and many other applications that are part of everyday life for Mexican families." He stressed that, to Ternium, the productivity of its industrial facilities are not all that’s important, but also the welfare and growth of the communities where it operates.
Ternium’s industrial project in the mining area of Colima generates more than 1,000 direct jobs and, through a social development plan, it provides various programs for the surrounding population. In education, it provides teacher training, literacy courses, awards scholarships and supports infrastructure improvement. In addition, in the Club Ternium Colima, it provides academic, cultural and artistic workshops, as well as computer classes, which are open to the public. In the area of health, it organizes an annual health fair and offers over 5,000 medical consultations free of charge. In the cultural arena, the company provides a Latin American film festival in Colima and a program called "Film for everyone." In addition, Ternium’s 10K Race in Colima seeks to promote health through sports.
The modernization of Ternium Alzada’s plant facilities ensures the quality of and a steady supply of iron ore and concentrate. With this project, Ternium is investing in the high-tech and value-added supply chain, focusing on safety and environmental best practices.
The renovation of the pelletizing plant in Alada will allow Ternium the continuity and improvement in the quality of ore conecentrate used in direct reduction plants around the country. As part of the expansion, a new pulpit was built which controls 100% of the plant operations. It is also optimizing energy consumption and physical space with the installation of a primary horizontal mill, with a Combiflex motor and reductor, which adds to the operation of the two existing vertical mills. Also with the upgrade, water is recovered for reuse in the grinding and concentration processes.
