Tenova Wins Order for New Walking Beam Furnace
01/25/2017 - Tenova Inc. has been awarded a contract to design and build a walking beam furnace for NLMK Group’s Pennsylvania mill, the equipment supplier announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, Tenova said it also will supply the control and automation package, which will include an advanced level 2 control system based on a thermal model.
NLMK is investing US$80 million in the furnace, which will be capable of heating 395 metric tons of slabs per hour. The reheat furnace will serve the plant’s hot strip mill and will replace three outdated pusher furnaces.
Tenova said the furnace, which will be outfitted with its Flexytech low-NOx burners, will be one of the largest of its kind in North America. Start-up is scheduled for 2018.
