Tenova to Upgrade Vietnamese EAF
11/27/2018 - Tenova has won a contract to outfit a Consteel electric arc furnace in Vietnam with new technology that will allow the furnace to also accept hot metal from a blast furnace.
In a statement, Tenova said Pomina Steel Corp. in Vietnam will deploy Tenova’s Flexible Modular Furnace concept on the 120-ton electric arc furnace at the Pomina 3 facility.
“This solution will allow Pomina 3 to adopt a hybrid electrical/integrated steelmaking technology minimizing CAPEX and gaining a saving on production costs,” Tenova said in a statement.
Start-up is set for early 2019.
“This project is the first one of this kind in Vietnam, following a trend of steelmakers for advanced solutions to decrease production costs and look for more flexibility to use different input materials into an EAF,” said Stefano Marelli, Tenova global sales regional manager.
