Tenova to Supply Walking Beam Furnace for Cosipa

COSIPA (Companhia Siderurgica Paulista), Brazil, recently awarded a contract to Tenova LOI Italimpianti for the supply of a new walking beam furnace for reheating slabs to be installed in COSIPA’s new mill in Cubatão, Brazil.

The new high-production walking beam furnace, which will have a production capacity of 400/440 tonnes/hour, will incorporate LOI Italimpianti’s latest innovation concepts. These technologies will help to optimize the furnace profile through the application of FlexyTech technology. This newly developed platform will help the facility to optimize reheat quality while ensuring protection of the environment.

Installation of lateral/frontal and roof burners facilitates the input and precise distribution of heating where it is required. Heating is distributed according to the position and dimension of the charge inside the furnace.

By overlapping the on-off sequential and modulation controls, the frontal burners can provide the necessary heat input to the soaking zones. This optimized heat distribution, which can be varied from burner to burner, combines with the special design of the riders to help minimize the cold spots that normally occur in a furnace’s heating zones.

Level 2 is provided by the FlexyTech mathematical model, which allows for off-line simulation and on-line control and optimization of the furnace.

Cosipa is part of the Usiminas Group.
