Tenova to Supply Latest-Technology Tinning Line for Jiangsu Dajiang Metal

Jiangsu Dajiang Metal, Sunshine Group, China, recently awarded a contract to Tenova to supply a 250,000 tonne/year high-speed electrolytic tinning line with insoluble anodes.

The electrolytic tin-plating line will be one of the world’s fastest lines, capable of producing at speeds of up to 700 meters/minute at entry/exit and 550 meters/minute at the process section. The line will process steel strip that is 700- to 1250-mm wide and 0.15- to 0.55-mm thick in grades for a product mix that will satisfy the most recent demands of the high-quality market.

The line will feature Tenova’s patented tin dissolution reactors, which provide a very low tin loss in the sludges—a maximum of 4%, according to Tenova. This represents a very positive aspect for economical and environmental issues. In addition, the insoluble anodes will permit easier handling of the process section with higher safety for operations.

Tenova will also incorporate specially developed edge-masks, which help to improve tinplate quality by preventing the “white border defects” due to tin overcoating at the edge while processing strips with different widths. Tenova’s edge-mask design also provides easy inspection and ready access to the cell.

Tenova is expected to deliver the electrolytic line to Jiangsu Sunshine at the end of 2008

Tenova developed and enhanced its tinning technology improvements over the last few years with a joint project carried on by the Strip Processing R&D department at Ternium-Siderar in Argentina, in cooperation with the Materials Development Center CSM in Italy.

This contract follows recent projects for Arcelor-Aceralia in Spain (new line) and Baosteel-Yichang (revamp).

Tenova (the former Techint Technologies) designs and supplies advanced technologies, products and services for the metal and mining industries. Tenova operates close to its customers through a network of 20 companies based in 14 different countries.
