Tenova to Supply Four Furnaces for Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil’s New Pipe Mill

Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil Ltda. recently awarded a contract to Tenova Italimpianti Deutschland GmbH in Düsseldorf for four reheat furnaces to be installed in the new pipe mill in Minas de Gerais, Belo Horizonte (Brazil). The contract covers engineering, fabrication, and supervision of erection and commissioning.

This order covers a 240 tonnes/hour walking-beam furnace for reheating pipe in the pipe mill, and three 100 tonnes/hour walking-beam furnaces for hardening and tempering pipes in the annealing section.

All furnaces will be equipped with low-NOx high-speed-burners designed to run with natural gas featuring the newest innovative combustion technology, as well with one recuperator for preheating combustion air.

The walking beam furnaces will be equipped with inside charging and discharging roller tables to transport the pipes in and out the furnace. To easily manage the charge, a charging machine that will pick up the pipes from the charging roller table will also be provided for each furnace.

The furnaces are equipped with the latest technology automation system for controlling the heating as well as movement of the charge inside the furnaces. According to Tenova, they will fulfill the highest demands for temperature uniformity and emissions.

The complete equipment commissioning is scheduled by early 2010.
