Tenova to Revamp Two Push-Pull Pickling Lines for Ternium Mexico

Ternium Mexico recently awarded a contract to Tenova Strip Processing to modernize two existing push-pull pickling lines.

The company’s main targets for the investment are to improve strip quality, to increase the plant’s annual productivity from 0.8 to 1.2 million tonnes, and to enhance operator safety.

For the upgrade, existing plants of Pickling Line No. 1 will be modernized based on Tenova’s proprietary design in order to increase production and to guarantee better final product quality. The existing entry section will be completely replaced by a double pass-line and tension leveler/scale breaker, while in the exit section, a new turret-type side trimming unit will replace the existing one. The tension leveler and side trimmer feature completely automatic set-up and control.

The tension leveler/scale breaker will enable to facility to achieve high strip elongation and very good flatness, leading to increased line productivity and reduced acid consumption, as well as improved quality of strip running into the process tanks and in the side trimmer.

The side trimmer includes a rotating feature that allows the blade to be changed in just a half minute, thus helping to minimize line stop times. The machine also features a stiff design and tight mechanical tolerances to guarantees precise and reliable strip cuts.
