Tenova TAKRAF to Provide Stage IV Expansion of Krutrade AG Coal Terminal

Krutrade recently awarded a contract to Tenova TAKRAF for the final stage (stage IV) of expansion for its Ust-Luga coal Terminal in Russia.

The scope for the new contract comprises the supply, transport and erection supervision of one stacker with tripper car, one reclaimer, and several conveyors. A fourth stock-pile area will also be added to the three existing pile-tracks as part of the coal terminal’s fourth expansion stage.

The stockyard equipment and the conveyors will operate at a capacity of 3500 tonnes/hour. The stacker will have a boom length of 55 meters, and the reclaimer will have a wheel boom with a length of 58 meters. The new conveyors, which will be aligned to the existing conveyor system, will have a belt width of 1600 mm and will transport coal at a speed of 4.5 meters/second. In total the new conveyors will reach a length of 1.5 kilometers.

Completion of expansion stage IV will enable the facility to reach an annual handling capacity exceeding 15 million tonnes of coal. This overcomes the original planned handling capacity of 12 Million tons per year. The performance increase can be attributed in part to the technical equipment supplied by Tenova TAKRAF and in part to the Rosterminalugol terminal operator’s skill.

Tenova TAKRAF was awarded this order even before delivery of the first structural and pre-assembled parts for the stacker/reclaimer and conveyors for the Ust-Luga III Expansion Contract. Commissioning of the fourth expansion stage is expected in 24 months.
