Tenova Revamps Tenaris Dalmine Rotary Hearth Furnace
01/21/2011 - Tenova LOI Italimpianti has successfully revamped the rotary hearth furnace on Tenaris’ medium-pipe line to enable charging of larger billets up to a length of 5300 mm.
Tenova LOI Italimpianti has successfully coordinated the project to revamp for Tenaris the medium-pipe line’s rotary hearth furnace.
The goals of the revamp were to enable charging of larger billets up to a length of 5300 mm and to improve productivity by about 35%. A significant (about 15%) savings in fuel consumption has also been achieved.
To achieve these goals, the furnace hearth width was extended by 2000 mm. This involved construction of a new internal wall and reduction of the furnace internal diameter, as well as the installation of a new combustion system with a relative control system. The combustion system included the installation of 55 TRGX flameless regenerative burners with very low NOx emissions. Post-installation measurements showed NOx emissions to be well below the legal limits.
An additional important innovation was the application of two new-generation charging and discharging machines.
