Tenova Goodfellow to Install EFSOP for IRO EAF

Tenova Goodellow Inc. will install its EFSOP® Holistic Optimization system for Industrie Riunite Odolesi’s (IRO) EAF meltshop in Odolo, Italy.

Goodfellow EFSOP technology, a leading off-gas-based process control system for EAFs, measures and analyzes EAF off-gases including CO, CO2, H2, and O2 continuously at the fourth hole. The off-gas measurements provide real-time closed-loop process control, resulting in improved operations, energy savings, lower conversion costs, and safety benefits.

Optimization of the 75-tonne electric arc furnace will be based on standard parameters, including the reduction of electrical energy, oxygen and natural gas consumption along with increasing yield and productivity. The EFSOP system will also allow the oxygen lances and burners already on site to be fine tuned to provide the EAF optimal continuous improvement.

Tenova’s Scope of Supply will also include post-combustion optimization and the installation of Techint Goodfellow’s off-gas water detection technology for increased safety within the furnace environment.

With this order, IRO decided to equip its furnaces with a complete Tenova Technological Package including the KT Injection System, the TDR-H Electrode Regulation, the new bimetallic power-conductive arms, and the EFSOP System. The sale of EFSOP to IRO SpA is Tenova Goodfellow’s tenth sale in the Italian steel market.

With half a century of operations, Industrie Riunite Odolesi (IRO) has progressed from the ancient handicraft of tradition to the new industrial strength of technological progress. The main production line includes billets from continuous casting and steel for reinforced concrete. Since 1990, IRO has used the Tempcore technology, which consists of superficial heat treatment of the bar during lamination. The company is ISO 9001 and 14001 certified.
