Tenova Core Converts Vacuum Tank Degassing System for Joy Global
05/07/2012 - Tenova Core recently completed a major revamp of a vacuum tank degassing system at Joy Global’s steelmaking facility in Longview, Texas. The company was contracted for design and supply of a state-of-the-art mechanical pumping system for the vacuum degasser.
Tenova Core recently completed a major revamp of a vacuum tank degassing system at Joy Global’s steelmaking facility in Longview, Texas.
The plant had an outdated boiler unit, which was dedicated to feed steam to the existing vacuum tank degasser’s steam ejector system. Instead of a new boiler replacement project, Tenova Core was contracted for design and supply of a state-of-the-art mechanical pumping system for the vacuum degasser at a significant cost savings. The dry solution of the mechanical pumps provides savings on maintenance and transformation costs, according to Tenova Core, and also provides the environmental benefit of a reduced carbon footprint. The new mechanical pumping system is in operation and the vacuum degasser is processing the molten steel to the specific requirements.
Tenova Core also provided a new process control system as well as an inline filtration unit for dust removal in the pumping system.
