Tennessee Scrap Metal Recyclers Form New Association

Scrap metal recyclers across the state of Tennessee have formed a new association, following months of meetings to discuss legislation introduced on Capitol Hill.

The new Tennessee Scrap Recyclers Association (TSRA) was recently incorporated as a not-for-profit trade association organized to promote the interests of the industry throughout Tennessee.

The group elected Dom Marchitto, of Metal Management in Nashville as President. Brad Thompson, of Thompson Metal Services located in Piney Flats, Tenn., will serve as Vice President, and Troy Blanton, of PSC Metals in Nashville, will serve as Treasurer.

In cooperation with the Institute for Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), a national association representing the industry, the group has organized "The Tennessee Metal Theft Task Force." The group recently met in Nashville with representatives of law enforcement, electric cooperatives, and other businesses.

One of TSRA’s first efforts is to become an integral part of a coalition seeking legislative measures to curb metal thefts. Dom Marchitto noted that "Each person is a stakeholder in these efforts to reduce metal theft." The consistent message mentioned by attendees centered on communication.

The group discussed surveillance cameras, ID requirements, theft-alert communications, and other practices to aid in the law enforcement process.

The group plans to hold its next meeting in mid-September. John Fitzgerald with the Nashville law firm Tune, Entrekin & White is secretary and general counsel for TSRA.
