TenarisTamsa Reports Nearly 60% Emissions Reduction Thanks to Improved Dust Collection System
09/08/2020 - Tenaris’ US$27 million investment in its Tamsa pipe mill in Veracruz, Mexico, has upped the mill’s emissions capture rate by almost 60%, the company reports.
According to the company’s annual Sustainability Report, the new dust collection system was installed in 2019. The system is designed to capture, cool and filter the fumes generated from the steelmaking process. The dust particulates collected from the fumes are later recycled.
In addition to meeting the company’s sustainability goals, the upgrade has improved the air quality and working conditions of the plant, Tenaris said.
“We have a responsibility to work sustainably and with care for the environment,” said Tenaris Mexico’s environment senior manager Emireth Hernández in an official company press release. “Our project to improve capture and treatment of these emissions is one demonstration of our commitment to develop a long-term sustainable business as it meets the three key criteria: environmental, social and economic.”
