Tenaris Upgrades EAF Injection System at Mexican Tube Mill

The vendor, Italy-based MORE srl, said the system features two 3,000-liter MOLI dispensers that pneumatically inject lime from the main storage silo directly into the EAF shell and four 2,500-liter MOCA dispensers that pneumatically inject carbon.

“Two LIMEJET units are installed on board of the EAF shell in the machined generation copper blocks with FLASH-STOP system to prevent damages generated by oxygen/flames flash-backs. The LIMEJET is a combined burner/fluxes injector with up to 5 MW burner mode including the innovative MSF-Mixed Swirl Flame technology and injection flowrate capacity up to 200 kilograms per minute of lime,” the company said in a statement.

MORE said the new system has improved of lime and carbon systems reliability, flowrate control management and stability.

The company said that more than 35 electric arc furnaces are using its pneumatic lime and carbon transportation and injection systems.

“The pneumatic carbon and lime injection systems in operation have demonstrated benefits in terms of continuous foaming slag conditioning, viscosity control by fluxes direct injection in the slag/metal interface and distribution during melting and superheating phases,” the company said.

TenarisTamsa’s meltshop has a capacity of 1.2 million tons annually, MORE said.
