Tenaris to Reduce Emissions Through Energy Management Plan
10/21/2021 - The company announced it is implementing an energy investment plan that will increase efficiency across its facilities worldwide and help Tenaris lower its carbon emissions intensity.
Tenaris said the US$6 million investment, which is part of a larger energy management project, comprises energy-conscious activities such as the installation of energy-monitoring meters in some of its mills, using LED lighting and electrifying some of its processes. The plan also includes the unveiling of a new energy monitoring dashboard that allows for the real-time monitoring of energy consumption and aims to standardize visual performance indicators.
The company is studying its heating furnaces in order to assess improvements needed to reduce consumption while reducing NOx emissions. Tenaris’ plant in Bay City, Texas, USA, uses flameless NOx-reducing burners that improve the use of natural gas, which fuels the plant. The company said it will be testing the use of hydrogen on one of its furnaces next year.
“We recognize the urgent need to act to reduce emissions and tackle the challenges of climate change adopting the best available technologies to optimize our processes and reduce our environmental footprint,” said Carolina Bengochea, Tenaris global environmental director.
