Tenaris Inaugurates the Roberto Rocca Technical School in Argentina
06/11/2013 - On 10 June 2013 the Roberto Rocca Technical School, located close to Tenaris’s mill in Campana, Argentina, was inaugurated.
Paolo Rocca, Tenaris chairman and CEO, and Daniel Scioli, Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, inaugurated on 10 June 2013 the Roberto Rocca Technical School, located close to Tenaris’s mill in Campana, Argentina. The town’s educational authorities, parents and students were also present at the school’s opening ceremony.
Tenaris invested US$ 25 million in the new building, which covers 7,500 m2 and occupies four hectares. The facilities include wide green spaces for recreational purposes and sports. The school has a capacity for 420 students and holds state-of-the-art scientific equipment and facility. The students can choose between two specializations: electronic technician and electromechanical equipment and facilities technician.
“Education is the basis for the growth and progress of a community, a source of integration and social mobility. It is an integral part of the values of our industrial culture, based on knowledge, professionalism, recognition of merit and commitment,” said Rocca.
"This inauguration is one of the most important works in the last years. We need to recover the technical schools and the commitment to education. Technical education is the path of progress and development for a country,” added Scioli.
The Roberto Rocca Technical School promotes social integration and equal opportunities through a system of grants. All students can obtain scholarships of at least 50% of the total cost. After assessing the socio-economic situation of each family, the school’s authorities define the percentage of the tuition that will be covered by the scholarship. Today, 33% of the students have a full or almost full scholarship.
The new school is the first of a global network of institutions that will promote technical education in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, United States, Romania, Indonesia and other countries where Tenaris operates. The aim is to promote long-term industrial sustainability and development through excellence in technical education.
The school was named after Roberto Rocca (1922–2003), former president of Tenaris.
