Tenaris Inaugurates State-of-the-Art OCTG Premium Line in Romania
11/21/2013 - Part of a US$62 mililon investment, Tenaris inaugurated on 20 November a new premium OCTG finishing line in Romania for specialized products used by the oil and gas industry.
Tenaris continues to expand its premium capabilities for customers regionally and globally and now reaffirms its commitment to Romanian industry with the new facility in Zalau, Romania.
The new line will produce premium connections used by oil and gas companies in the most challenging environments, such as offshore, deep water, corrosive, high temperature and high pressure wells. The use of premium pipes, such as the ones now being produced in Tenaris’s mill in Romania, aims to enhance reliability and performance in difficult exploration and production activities.
With the new premium line in Zalau, Tenaris builds up its capability to serve its customers in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and the Caspian Sea region.
“In a highly competitive business landscape, with ever more stringent requirements, our customers expect a lot from our ability to provide innovative products and services, flexibility and improved time to market. The line we are inaugurating today represents our way to meet customers’ expectations, ensuring at the same time the sustainability of our Romanian operations,” said Michele Della Briotta, Tenaris area manager Eastern Europe.
With a capacity of about 35,000 tons per year, the line is able to process tubes in the size range from 2 3/8” to 7”, with TenarisHydril Blue® Series, Wedge Series 500™ and Wedge Series 600™ premium connections, both integral, and threaded and coupled. In 2014, the facility will begin producing TenarisHydril Dopeless® technology, a dry multifunctional coating that enhances the performance of premium connections and provides quantifiable operational, well productivity and HSE benefits.
The line features a high level of automation, optimum health & safety and ergonomic conditions for operators and a reduced environmental footprint through the use of the best available technologies. Up to now, 66 people have been hired and trained in order to cover key positions for the new operations.
This recent achievement comes one year after the start-up of the finishing line for boiler tubes up to 26 meters long, as well as the acquisition of a sucker rod production facility located in Campina, Romania. Since 2005, Tenaris invested more than US$ 300 million in its Romanian operations.
