With an investment of US$12 million, Tenaris has finalized the second stage of the building of a sucker rods mill in Veracruz, Mexico. The expansion increased the production capacity by 500,000 sucker rods per year (12,500,000 feet) to meet the growing demand of its customers in North America, with flexible and optimized delivery times.
The first stage of the project was concluded in December 2011 and the mill was inaugurated one month later. With the completion of this second stage, the plant acquires the capacity to produce one million sucker rods per year (25 million feet). This improvement, including both stages, strengthens the capacity of the whole system by 40%, reaching a total of 3 million units (75 million feet) in its four manufacturing centers located in Romania, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
As part of the second phase of the investment, Tenaris has built a molded-on rod centralizers facility, which are accessories that provide protection against premature wear out of both the tubing and the sucker rods.
