Tenaris Coating Booth Improvements Lead to Major Reduction in VOC Emissions
01/19/2021 - Tenaris’ seamless tube mill in Bay City, Texas, says it has eliminated 98% of the volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the facility’s coating booth.
In a statement, the company said it was able to achieve the reduction by using water-based varnishes and installing new equipment.
“A key component in this initiative was the installation of a pre-filter system and the improvement of a capture system in the line that processes through the facility’s thermal oxidizer, which destroys 98% of the few VOCs present through the use of high temperatures,” the company said.
Additionally, the Bay City plant modified the application process and exhaust system in the finishing area, reducing overspray and waste.
“We made sure to align with the best available control technologies while following state and internal mandates and regulations,” said Gabriela Silberman, Tenaris Bay City’s environmental leader. “The team’s hard work directly reflects these sustainable results, all while being a part of one of the most environmentally efficient facilities in Tenaris.”
