Tenaris Announces Job Cuts at Arkansas Mill
07/11/2016 - Oil country tubular goods maker Tenaris is laying off approximately 100 people at its welded pipe mill in Arkansas, the company has announced.
In a statement, the company said the layoffs at its Blytheville mill were due to the weak market.
“Tenaris will continue to monitor the market conditions, and align its workforce and production levels as needed,” the company said. “Tenaris is committed to U.S. manufacturing, moving forward with strategic investment plans to better position the company for sustainable growth in the future,” it said, referring to its US$1.8 billion Bay City mill in Texas, which is to open next year.
According to the Arkansas Democrat- Gazette newspaper, this is the second round of layoffs at Blytheville this year. In January, the company said it was planning to lay off 100 employees due to low oil prices and the decline in drilling, the newspaper reported.
