Tenaris’ Dopeless® Technology Run for First Time in Brazil
05/17/2013 - Tenaris’ Dopeless® technology was run for the first time in Brazil, in a Petrobras deepwater offshore operation, during the first half of this year.
Tenaris’ Dopeless® technology was run for the first time in Brazil, in a Petrobras deepwater offshore operation, during the first half of this year. A string of about 1,000-meters of 18” TenarisHydril Wedge 511™ Dopeless® premium connections was run with zero rejects and a significant reduction in operational time.
Dopeless® technology is a dry, multifunctional coating applied to TenarisHydril premium connections exclusively at Tenaris mills worldwide. In addition to the health, safety and environmental benefits, this solution reduces running time and increases the reliability of the installation in offshore operations.
The string included standard connections lubricated with dope, which allowed the operator to compare the advantages of the technology in the field. “In order to highlight the benefits of our dope-free solution, of a total of 11 connections 7 used Dopeless® technology. Besides, the connections’ make-up process was 22% faster,” says Fernando Ribeiro, a Tenaris field services specialist who followed up on the operations.
According to Hever Guzman, the safety benefits were noticeable. “Dopeless® technology reduces operational steps and minimizes the release of lubricants that require washing in conventional operations,” sad the Tenaris field services specialist.
According to Robson Silva, Tenaris technical sales manager in Brazil, Dopeless® technology offers many advantages which, associated with Tenaris’s proximity to offshore production companies, allow Tenaris to offer a differentiated package of services. “For this operation, measurements and calculations were carried out at our Service Center in Rio das Ostras. Thus the time and manpower necessary to do the job at the field has been reduced,” he concludes.
Present in 44 countries, with over 8 million feet of pipes installed, Dopeless® technology is well known and consolidated in the Middle East. Tenaris’s dope-free solution is also used in the most important deep-water projects of the market: the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and West Africa.
