Tata Steel Scrap Facility Accepts First Deliveries
07/28/2020 - Tata Steel has planted a flag in the steel recycling business, with a new scrap facility accepting its delivery of ferrous material.
In a statement, Tata Steel said the facility, which is being set up in the Indian state of Haryana, will be capable of processing 500,000 metric tons annually. It is the first such facility in India, according to Tata Steel.
Tata’s Steel Recycling Business is a definitive toward sustainable steel production, the company said, adding that the plant will provide a much-needed boost to the steel industry by making quality processed ferrous scrap available, streamlining the scrap supply chain, lowering dependency on foreign imports, and enhancing transparency and efficiency in the value chain.
“Steel Recycling through the electric arc furnace (EAF) route is a global trend and going forward it would become imperative for India’s sustainable growth aspirations,” said Yogesh Bedi, chief, Steel Recycling Business for Tata Steel.
“Tata Steel has been pioneering various aspects of the steel industry since its inception in 1907. Steel Recycling Business is yet another pioneering initiative from Tata Steel to enable circular economy and a sustainable tomorrow.”
