Tata Steel Reports 26% Increase in Sales in January

Tata Steel reported significant increases in hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production in January 2009 as compared to production in January 2008.
 
The company produced 574,000 tonnes of hot metal and 525,000 tonnes of crude steel in January, a 32% increase in hot metal a 25% increase in crude steel as compared to January 2008. The company also produced 548,000 tonnes of saleable steel in January, a 35% increase compared to January 2008.
 
January sales of 511,000 tonnes reflected a 26% increase compared to 404,000 tonnes in January 2008.
 
The company said that in January it produced 2, 57,271 tonnes of hot metal from its H Blast Furnace, representing a capacity utilization of 124% and the unit’s highest rate of hot metal production since its start-up.
 
The company’s steel meltshops also recorded their best-ever production of crude steel at 524,586 tonnes, which compares to a previous best of 514,266 tonnes in November 2008. The company’s saleable steel production also achieved a record high of 547,633 tonnes, which compares to a previous best of 460,046 tonnes in August 2008).
 
The company’s Jamshedpur works reported best-ever steel shipments of 496,853 tonnes, which compares to a previous best of 447,449 tonnes in March 2008. The company also reported record long products sales of 211,142 tonnes, as compared to a previous best 186,630 tonnes in November 2008.
 
During January, Tat Steel Commenced initial civil construction work at its 6-million-tonnes/year integrated Greenfield steel project at Kalinganagar, Orissa. The company also celebrated its selection as winner of the coveted ET Company of the Year Award.
