Tata Steel Partners With SMS group, Primetals Technologies in Decarbonization Effort
11/30/2022 - Tata Steel has signed separate memorandums of understanding with plant builders Primetals Technologies and SMS group as it looks to decarbonize its steelmaking operations.
In a statement, SMS group said it is proud to team up with Tata Steel and is committed to supporting the company with its decarbonization roadmap.
“Our companies have a common goal to reduce carbon emissions from iron and steel production, as the industry is not only key to economic prosperity, it is also one of the largest CO2 emitters,” said SMS group chairman and chief executive Burkhard Dahmen.
“This represents an important contribution in the fight against climate change and is beneficial for the Indian economy as a whole and especially for the communities located around the steel plants.”
Primetals Technologies said it, too, is excited to collaborate more closely with Tata Steel.
“Primetals Technologies is the global frontrunner and we have a broad portfolio in the field of green steel production solutions, including hydrogen-based ironmaking, electric steelmaking, and endless casting and rolling technologies. As a part of the larger Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, we also have innovations for carbon capture, utilization and storage at our disposal,” said Norbert Petermaier, executive vice president of sales at Primetals Technologies.
Tata Steel is prioritizing decarbonization and is looking for solutions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
