Tata Steel Leaves Steel Association
05/04/2020 - Tata Steel is withdrawing from the Indian Steel Association and the company’s chief executive is resigning his post as the association’s president, according to reports.
“Tata Steel has withdrawn its membership from the Indian Steel Association (ISA) owing to various considerations. Accordingly, Mr. T. V. Narendran, CEO and managing director, Tata Steel, has stepped down from his position as the incumbent President, ISA,” a company spokesperson told the Press Trust of India.
The (India) Economic Times reported that the move is likely tied to tensions among steel producers over India’s competitive mineral allocation system.
“It has opened up opportunities for some — JSW Steel successfully bid for half a dozen new mines in Odisha earlier this year — but left others bitter."
