Tata Steel Launches Second Phase of Construction on Steel Works
11/13/2018 - Tata Steel has broken ground on an expansion of its new Kalinganagar works, a US$3.25 billion project that is expected to take four years to complete.
"Kalinganagar has been a remarkable story for Tata Steel. Within a year of its commissioning, we were at almost full capacity utilization, and now we are beginning the second phase of our expansion," Tata Steel chief executive TV Narendran said, according to Indian financial portal moneycontrol.com.
"The Kalinganagar facility is expected to be one of the lowest-cost producers of steel in the world," he added.
The project will take the integrated facility's capacity from 3 million metric tons annually to 8 million metric tons.
