Tata Steel Executives Recognized by Indian Institute of Metal
11/17/2010 - The Indian Institute of Metal (IIM) has conferred five awards to different Tata Steel executives in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the steel industry. The ceremony was part of IIM’s Annual Technical Meeting at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
The Indian Institute of Metal (IIM) has conferred five awards to different Tata Steel executives in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the steel industry.
The award ceremony was part of IIM’s Annual Technical Meeting (ATM) at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, to mark the 48th National Metallurgists Day and 64th ATM.
Dr. T Venugopal was awarded the “Best Metallurgist of the Year” for 2010. The award was presented by the Union Minister for Steel, Shri Virbhadra Singh.
Other awardees included N Rajesh and Nikilesh Banerjee, Steel 80s Award; Akshay Kullar, Essar Gold Medal; and Sanjay Kumar, Mecon Award for Innovation.
The acquisition of Corus in 2007 led to the commencement of Tata Steel's European operations. Tata Steel Group is the tenth-largest steel producer in the world with more than 81,000 employees across five continents. During the financial year 2009-10, the Group recorded deliveries of 24 million tonnes compared to 28 million tonnes in the previous year, the decline a reflection of the global economic slowdown mainly in the U.K. and European operations.
