Tata Steel Commissions Coke Oven Battery No. 10 at Jamshedpur
03/04/2013 - On 3 March 2013, Tata Steel commissioned and inaugurated its 700,000 tonne per year coke oven battery No. 10 and by-product plant at its Jamshedpur facility in India.
On 3 March 2013, Tata Steel commissioned and inaugurated its coke oven battery No. 10 and by-product plant at its Jamshedpur facility in India.
Built at a production capacity of 0.7 million tonnes per annum, the coke oven battery No. 10 and by-product plant operates with 88 ovens (with stamp charge technology) and is the largest battery at the Jamshedpur works. It will also produce by-product of coke oven gas (44,000 Nm3/hr), coal tar (35,305 tonnes per annum) and pure sulfur (1,668 tonnes per annum).
Cyrus P Mistry, chairman, Tata Sons and Tata Steel, inaugurated the facility. On the occasion, he congratulated the entire team and said, “It is befitting that the coke oven battery No. 10 is being inaugurated on Founder’s Day.”
HM Nerurkar, managing director, Tata Steel, said at the event, “It was a challenging project and on this day I want to compliment all the members in completion of such a wonderful job without any single safety issue faced since its inception.”
The occasion was graced by the presence of Dr JJ Irani, senior executives of Tata Steel, PN Singh, president, Tata worker’s union, along with the members of the partnering companies for the coke oven battery and senior officials from the Government of Jharkhand.
Mr. Singh too spoke at the event where he appreciated the commendable effort of Tata Steel in achieving the milestone.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Mistry and Ratan N. Tata paid homage to the founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 174th birthday anniversary and also met the citizens of Jamshedpur. Later in the day, Mr. Mistry attended the Founder’s Day sports function and gave away prizes to the winners.
