Tata Steel Begins Shut Down of U.K. Blast Furnace
09/30/2024 - Tata Steel’s Port Talbot Works inn Wales has started to wind down operations at its No. 4 blast furnace, and the community is bracing for the loss of scores of jobs.
"Today marks an incredibly sad and poignant day for the British steel industry and for the communities in and around Port Talbot which are so intricately connected to blast furnace steelmaking,” Roy Rickhuss, the general secretary of Community Union, which represents steelworkers at the facility told the The Guardian newspaper.
