Taiwanese Rebar Maker Equipping Itself for Continuous Rolling
09/30/2016 - Taiwan’s Tung Ho has ordered a new continuous billet welder for its Taoyuan bar mill, enabling the facility to operate in endless rolling mode.
According to Danieli, which won the order, the welding line is to be added to the facility’s No. 1 bar mill and will make it the first in Taiwan to be able to roll continuously. The mill rolls 150-mm square billets and produces approximately 600,000 metric tons of rebar annually, according to Danieli.
Danieli said the welder, equipped with Level 2 automation, is to be installed at the delivery side of the reheat furnace. In addition to the welder, Danieli will equip the mill with its K-Spool compact coil spooling technology.
“The…process also constitutes the necessary upgrade to shift production of rebar primarily toward compact coils that -- especially in tonnages from 3.5 to 5 tons -- are recording consistent increases in market demand,” the company said.
Start-up is scheduled for the fall of 2017. Tung Ho is a leading structural steel producer in Taiwan.
