SYSTEMS Spray-Cooled Enters Phase Two of Nucor-Yamato Furnace Upgrade
01/29/2015 - After the successful commissioning and start-up in early 2014 of Nucor-Yamato Steel’s single bucket charge furnace upgrade, SYSTEMS Spray-Cooled Inc. has now turned to Phase 2 of the project.
The first phase included new larger Spray-Cooled™ upper furnace shells and roofs along with a completely new design Spray-Cooled™ drop-out chamber roof with integral Spray-Cooled duct extension on Nucor-Yamato’s No. 2 (West) furnace in Blytheville, Ark.
The second phase of the project is to convert Nucor-Yamato’s No. 1 (East) furnace equipment to the same single bucket charge furnace with Spray-Cooled™ equipment as was done on the No. 2 furnace above. All of the equipment deliverables needed for the conversion upgrade were delivered on-time by the end of the fourth quarter of 2014, including all spares. The on-time delivery has allowed Nucor-Yamato to fully assemble and trial fit the equipment off-line prior to the scheduled March 2015 outage. The goal is to ensure proper fitment of as much of the equipment as possible prior to the outage in order to reduce the outage duration and get the steelmaker back to production in a timely manner with minimal delays.
