Survey: North American Steel Demand Expected to See Modest Gains
04/12/2023 - Steel industry senior executives believe demand will increase modestly over the next three to five years, inflation to moderate, and imports volumes to remain more or less the same, according to an annual survey conducted by corporate finance and strategic advisory firm Headwall Partners.
According to its 2023 steel and metals outlook survey of industry leaders, 82% of respondents are predicting only a modest increase in North American steel demand. Another 19% are looking for demand to remain unchanged or decrease modestly.
Meanwhile, a majority of executives, 55%, predict that the inflation rate will be between 2% and 4% in five years. A majority also are forecasting no real change in steel imports over the next three to five years. However, 27% of survey respondents said they believe imports will decline modestly, but 18% said they are looking for a modest increase in the same period.
The survey is the seventh annual survey produced by the firm.
