Surging Imports Prompt Liberty Steel and Wire to Pause Production
09/26/2024 - Liberty Steel and Wire is throttling back production and temporarily laying off employees at its Peoria, Ill., USA, facility, reports the (Peoria, Ill.) Journal Star newspaper.
Citing an influx of low-price imports, the plant will reduce production at its meltshop and bar and rod mills.
“This is temporary and the organization plans to restart the facilities in late October. LIBERTY is still in the position of being able to fulfill existing orders and we plan to use this downtime to focus on process improvements,” the company told the newspaper.
