Supported by Energy Market Rebound, Tenaris Restarts Texas Facility
10/25/2018 - Tenaris has restarted parts of an idled line pipe and OCTG mill in Conroe, Texas, citing improved market conditions.
In a statement, Tenaris said it spent approximately US$7 million to restore heat treat and finishing lines, which are running seamless tube produced at the company's new mill in Bay City, Texas, USA.
Tenaris idled the mill in 2015 on account of low oil prices and competition from unfairly traded imports. But as oil prices have rebounded, driving investments in new wells, and with the Trump administration’s imposition of the Section 232 tariffs, demand warranted the facility’s reopening, the company said.
“I want to thank our employees, many of whom have returned to the plant and those who are new to Tenaris, for their dedication to completing a safe, and successful, start-up,” said Tenaris USA president Luca Zanotti. “Our Conroe facility is playing an important role in the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing,” he said.
