SunCoke Energy's Coke Production Declines Due to Severe Winter Weather
04/09/2014 - SunCoke Energy Inc. reported first quarter 2014 domestic coke production is expected to be 944,000 tons, down an estimated 108,000 tons versus the same prior year period.
This year-over-year decline reflects approximately 64,000 tons of lower production at its Indiana Harbor facility due to the combined impact of severe winter weather and the significant refurbishment effort underway at this plant. The extreme winter weather, which impacted charge weights and yield, drove nearly 40,000 tons of lower production at the company’s Haverhill and Granite City operations collectively.
Domestic capacity utilization in first quarter 2014 is estimated to be 90%, as compared to 101% in the same prior year period.
