Stelco Appoints New Director

March 9, 2007 — Stelco Inc. announced the appointment of Derek G. Pannell as a director of Stelco.

Mr. Pannell is a metallurgical engineer with over 35 years of experience in the mining and metals industry. He was the CEO of Noranda Inc. and Falconbridge Limited from June 2002 to October 2006. Currently, Pannell is a managing partner of Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. and a director of Teck Cominco Ltd.

"We welcome Derek to Stelco and the Board looks forward to benefiting from his considerable experience," said Stelco Chairman Courtney Pratt.

Pannell fills the seat left vacant by former Stelco director D. Anthony (Tony) Molluso, who passed away earlier this year. Stelco says that Mr. Molluso made a valued contribution to Stelco's board of directors and will be missed by his colleagues and friends at Stelco.

Stelco, one of Canada's largest steel companies, is focused on its two Ontario-based integrated steel businesses located in Hamilton and in Nanticoke. These operations produce high quality value-added hot rolled, cold rolled, coated sheet and bar products.
