Steelworkers Approve New Labor Deal With EVRAZ North America
09/29/2017 - Members of the United Steelworkers union have ratified a five-year labor agreement with EVRAZ North America’s Pueblo, Colo., USA, plant.
According to the Steelworkers, the new agreement, which will expire on Sept. 10, 2022, provides wage and pension increases and a signing bonus and maintains employees’ premium-free health insurance.
Bob LaVenture, the union’s District 12 director, said the agreement will improve job security for the current workforce and may lead to major investments in the Pueblo facility.
"As EVRAZ management considers locations where it may build a new rail mill in the U.S., we have made a strong case for Pueblo by passing this contract," LaVenture said.
"Such an investment would bring with it stability and security for current and future generations of area steelworkers."
The agreement covers approximately 750 workers.
United Steelworkers at EVRAZ plants in Regina and Calgary, Canada, ratified a new labor agreement earlier this month, ending 16 months of negotiations at those facilities.
