Steelworkers, U. S. Steel and ArcelorMittal Returning to Bargaining Table
09/23/2015 - Contract negotiations between the United Steelworkers union and ArcelorMittal and United States Steel Corporation are to resume next week.
In a statement, Steelworkers said their bargaining committee will return to Pittsburgh, Pa., USA, this weekend and resume labor talks on 28 September. The union said it will be meeting with ArcelorMittal management throughout the week.
Solidarity actions have been scheduled at ArcelorMittal locations on 30 September, the union said.
Separately, the Pittsburgh Business Times newspaper reported that the union also is resuming negotiations with U. S. Steel next week.
The union is continuing to work under terms of its previous deals, which expired 1 September.
Negotiations broke off earlier this month after ArcelorMittal walked away from the bargaining table. According to the union, the company left the table after receiving a comprehensive proposal that would save the company millions of dollars, yet preserve benefits for active and retired union members.
