SteelBenchmarker: HRB Prices Revive

The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarkerTM Western European HRB price for 11 August 2014 rose 1.8% to US$576 per metric ton (on a Euro basis, it rose 2.1%) after falling five consecutive times. The United States HRB spot price increased 0.9% to US$749 per metric ton for the third consecutive time. The Chinese HRB price increased 0.4% to US$452 per metric ton after being flat last time. The World export HRB price remained flat at US$551 per metric ton after falling last time.
 
USA – US$749 per metric ton (US$679 per ton), FOB the mill – up US$7 per metric ton from US$742 (US$673 ton) two weeks ago, up US$112 from the recent low of US$637 (US$578 ton) on 27 May 2013 and up US$196 from the low of US$553 per metric ton (US$502 ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$221 per metric ton from the recent high of US$970 (US$880 ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$454 (37.7%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per metric ton (US$1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
 
China – US$452 per metric ton, ex-works – up US$2 per metric ton from US$450 two weeks ago, up US$5 per metric ton from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and up US$45 from the low of US$407 per metric ton on 12 October 2009. It is down US$185 per metric ton from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$281 (38.3%) from the record peak of US$733 per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
 
Western Europe – US$576 (€431) per metric ton, ex-works – up US$10 per metric ton from US$566 (€422e) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was up €9), down US$14 (down €23) from the recent low of US$590 (€454) on 8 July 2013 and up US$5 (up €50) from the low of US$571 (€381) per metric ton on 23 November 2009. It is down US$276 (€174) per metric ton from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down US$628 (52.2%) (€325) (43.0%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
 
World Export Price – US$551 per metric ton, FOB the port of export – no change from US$551 two weeks ago, up US$19 from the recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and up US$55 from the low of US$496 per metric ton on 9 November 2009. It is down US$222 per metric ton from the recent high of US$773 on 14 February 2011 and down US$562 (50.5%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per metric ton on 28 July 2008.
