SteelBenchmarker: HRB Prices Recede

The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ World export HRB price for 8 September 2014 fell 3.6% to US$534 per metric ton after being up last time. The Chinese HRB price fell 2.0% to US$436 per metric ton for the second consecutive time. The Western European HRB price declined 0.7% to US$564 per metric ton (on a Euro basis, it rose 1.4%) for the second consecutive time. The United States HRB spot price decreased 0.5% to US$742 per metric ton for the second consecutive time.
 
USA – US$742 per metric ton (US$673 per ton), FOB the mill – down US$4 per metric ton from US$746 (US$677 ton) two weeks ago, up US$105 from the recent low of US$637 (US$578 ton) on 27 May 2013 and up US$189 from the low of US$553 per metric ton (US$502 ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$228 per metric ton from the recent high of US$970 (US$880 ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$461 (38.3%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per metric ton (US$1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
 
China – US$436 per metric ton, ex-works – down US$9 per metric ton from US$445 two weeks ago, down US$11 per metric ton from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and up US$29 from the low of US$407 per metric ton on 12 October 2009. It is down US$201 per metric ton from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$297 (40.5%) from the record peak of US$733 per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
 
Western Europe – US$564 (€436e) per metric ton, ex-works – down US$4 per metric ton from US$568 (€430e) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was up €6), down US$26 (down €18) from the recent low of US$590 (€454) on July 8, 2013 and down US$7 (up €55) from the low of US$571 (€381) per metric ton on Nov. 23, 2009. It is down US$288 (€169) per metric ton from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on Mar. 28, 2011 and down US$640 (53.2%) (€320) (42.3%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per metric ton on July 14, 2008.
 
World Export Price – US$534 per metric ton, FOB the port of export – down US$20 per metric ton from US$554 two weeks ago, up US$2 from the recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and up US$38 from the low of US$496 per metric ton on 9 November 2009. It is down US$239 per metric ton from the recent high of US$773 on 14 February 2011 and down US$579 (52.0%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per metric ton on 28 July 2008.
