SteelBenchmarker: HRB Prices Dormant
12/30/2013 - The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ World export HRB price for 23 December 2013 rose 0.2% to US$565 per tonne for the fourth consecutive time.
The Chinese HRB price rose to US$477 per tonne after remaining unchanged last time. The United States HRB spot price rose 0.8% to US$744 per tonne for the sixth consecutive time. The Western European HRB price fell 0.5% to US$608 per tonne (on a Euro basis, it was flat) after rising last time.
In its 186th report, the SteelBenchmarker released nine steel product and three USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot-rolled band for 23 December 2013:
USA – US$744 per tonne (US$675 per net ton), FOB the mill – up US$6 per tonne from US$738 (US$670 ton) two weeks ago, up US$107 from the recent low of US$637 (US$578 ton) on 27 May 2013 and up US$191 from the low of US$553 per tonne (US$502 ton) on 23 November 2009. It is down US$226 per tonne from the recent high of US$970 (US$880 ton) on 28 March 2011 and down US$459 (38.2%) from the record peak of US$1,203 per tonne (US$1,091 ton) on 28 July 2008.
China – US$477 per tonne, ex-works – up US$1 per tonne from US$476 two weeks ago, up US$30 per tonne from the recent low of US$447 on 10 September 2012 and up US$70 from the low of US$407 per tonne on 12 October 2009. It is down US$160 per tonne from the recent high of US$637 on 22 August 2011 and down US$256 (34.9%) from the record peak of US$733 per tonne on 14 July 2008.
Western Europe – US$608 (€444e) per tonne, ex-works – down US$3 per tonne from US$611 (€444) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was flat), up US$18 (down €10) from the recent low of US$590 (€454) on 8 July 2013 and up US$37 (up €63) from the low of US$571 (€381) per tonne on 23 November 2009. It is down US$244 (€161) per tonne from the recent high of US$852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down US$596 (49.5%) (€312) (41.3%) from the record peak of US$1,204 (€756) per tonne on 14 July 2008.
World Export Price – US$565 per tonne, FOB the port of export – up US$1 per tonne from US$564 two weeks ago, up US$33 from the recent low of US$532 on 8 October 2012 and up US$69 from the low of US$496 per tonne on 9 November 2009. It is down US$237 per tonne from the recent high of US$802 on 14 February 2011 and down US$548 (49.2%) from the record peak of US$1,113 per tonne on 28 July 2008.
