SteelBenchmarker: HRB Price Fall Arrested
11/03/2014 - In its 206th report, the SteelBenchmarker™ released 9 steel products and 3 USA scrap prices. Of these, here are four benchmark prices for hot-rolled band for 27 October 2014:
The bi-monthly SteelBenchmarker™ United States HRB spot price for 27 October 2014 declined 0.1% to $720 per metric ton for the fifth consecutive time. The World export HRB price declined 0.2% to $532 per metric ton after no change last time. The Western European HRB price declined 0.4% to $550 per metric ton (on a Euro basis, it declined 0.5%) for the fifth consecutive time. The Chinese HRB price declined 0.5% to $413 per metric ton for the fifth consecutive time.
USA – $720 per metric ton ($653 per net ton), FOB the mill – down $1 per metric ton from $721 ($654 nt) two weeks ago, up $83 from the recent low of $637 ($578 nt) on 27 May 2013 and up $167 from the low of $553 per metric ton ($502 nt) on 23 November 2009. It is down $250 per metric ton from the recent high of $970 ($880 nt) on 28 March 2011 and down $483 (40.1%) from the record peak of $1,203 per metric ton ($1,091 nt) on 28 July 2008.
China – $413 per metric ton, ex-works – down $2 per metric ton from $415 two weeks ago, down $34 per metric ton from the recent low of $447 on 10 September 2012 and up $6 from the low of $407 per metric ton on 12 October 2009. It is down $224 per metric ton from the recent high of $637 on 22 August 2011 and down $320 (43.7%) from the record peak of $733 per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
Western Europe – $550 (€433e) per metric ton, ex-works – down $2 per metric ton from $552 (€435e) two weeks ago (on a Euro basis, it was down €2), down $40 (down €21) from the recent low of $590 (€454) on 8 July 2013 and down $21 (up €52) from the low of $571 (€381) per metric ton on 23 November 2009. It is down $302 (€172) per metric ton from the recent high of $852 (€605) on 28 March 2011 and down $654 (54.3%) (€323) (42.7%) from the record peak of $1,204 (€756) per metric ton on 14 July 2008.
World Export Price – $532 per metric ton, FOB the port of export – down $1 per metric ton from $533 two weeks ago, flat with the recent low of $532 on 8 October 2012 and up $36 from the low of $496 per metric ton on 9 November 2009. It is down $241 per metric ton from the recent high of $773 on 14 February 2011 and down $581 (52.2%) from the record peak of $1,113 per metric ton on 28 July 2008.
USA – $720 per metric ton ($653 per net ton), FOB the mill – down $1 per metric ton from $721 ($654 nt) two weeks ago, up $83 from the recent low of $637 ($578 nt) on 27 May 2013 and up $167 from the low of $553 per metric ton ($502 nt) on 23 November 2009. It is down $250 per metric ton from the recent high of $970 ($880 nt) on 28 March 2011 and down $483 (40.1%) from the record peak of $1,203 per metric ton ($1,091 nt) on 28 July 2008.
